Australia has banned DeepSeek AI services from all government systems and devices, becoming one of the first countries to take action against the Chinese artificial intelligence startup.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said in a statement last Thursday that all DeepSeek products, services, and applications will be removed from government systems due to national security concerns.
He also said that the ban would be effective immediately and explained that the assessment by the country's intelligence agencies found that the technology posed a threat to national security.
DeepSeek was founded in Hangzhou only 20 months ago and it became a global sensation in January when the company released a new mobile app featuring its AI chatbot, which topped worldwide download charts.
