Vandals carried out arson attacks on the French railway network in Paris, France, hours before the start of the Paris Olympics 2024.

The government-owned railway operator SNCF revealed that arsonists attacked installations along the railway lines connecting Paris with Lille, Bordeaux, and Strasbourg.
The railway operator requested all commuters to postpone their travel because of the disruption caused by the attacks.

The repair work is in progress, but the railway traffic is expected to be disrupted heavily until the end of the week. After the attack, trains were sent back to the points of departure.
The attack happened hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024, which will be protected by a peacetime security operation with over 45,000 police, 10,000 soldiers, and 2,000 private security agents deployed.
Snipers will be ready on rooftops while drones will survey the event by air.
The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics will be hosted along the River Seine at 7:30 p.m. (local time).
