Ranked No. 41, the 23-year-old American becomes the lowest-ranked player to claim the Doha crown and the first American champion since Monica Seles in 2002. With this breakthrough moment, she will surge to No. 18 in the WTA rankings, marking her debut in the Top 20.

A Final Like No Other

The championship match saw two unseeded players battle it out under challenging weather conditions, with strong winds and intermittent rain testing their endurance. Anisimova, known for her powerful backhand and mental toughness, took control early and never looked back.

Ostapenko, ranked No. 37, entered the final in sensational form after eliminating three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semis. However, she struggled to counter Anisimova’s relentless baseline aggression. Despite a brief fightback in the second set, the 2017 Roland Garros champion couldn’t shift the momentum.

Anisimova sealed the victory with her 13th backhand winner, converting her second championship point to claim the biggest title of her career.

An Emotional Triumph

Overcome with joy, Anisimova reflected on her journey:

"To lift my first WTA 1000 trophy is so special. There’s been a lot of hard work, a lot of tears, and a lot of amazing moments. This is why I love tennis."

Ostapenko, ever the sportswoman, congratulated her opponent:

"Congrats to Amanda, you played amazing. Hopefully, we’ll battle in more finals in the future."

Road to Glory

Anisimova’s Doha run was nothing short of extraordinary. She became the first player in tournament history to defeat five Top-30 opponents, including an impressive semifinal win over Ekaterina Alexandrova, who had been riding an eight-match winning streak.

This title marks a stunning comeback for Anisimova, who is now set to become a major contender on the WTA Tour in 2025.

With renewed confidence and a career-high ranking, she heads into the upcoming Sunshine Swing, ready to make her mark on the season. One thing’s for sure—this rising star is just getting started.
