This year's festival emphasizes the resilience of Palestine and Sudan, embodying its theme, "Moments that Matter."

The festival’s opening night featured the screening of Sudan, Remember Us, a Doha Film Institute-backed film directed by Hind Meddeb. This impactful documentary spotlights young Sudanese activists advocating for freedom through powerful words and poetry. Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute and Ajyal Festival Director, highlighted that starting with this film underscores Ajyal’s dedication to amplifying voices from underrepresented regions.

Ajyal 2024 will showcase 66 films from 42 countries at various Doha venues, including Katara, Sikkat Wadi Msheireb, Lusail, and VOX Cinemas at Doha Festival City, with tickets still available for many screenings.

The festival also features the ‘Voices from Palestine’ program, presenting works by Palestinian filmmakers that reflect their people's resilience and hopes for justice. Alremaihi noted, “These films call for global recognition, justice, and empathy.”

Local artist Dana Al Meer emphasized the festival's importance in amplifying voices often unheard. “This festival provides a powerful platform to discuss global issues,” she said on the red carpet.

The event continues with interactive juror programs, workshops, and the popular ‘Made in Qatar’ section, spotlighting emerging local filmmakers. Additionally, attendees can look forward to discussions, film exhibitions, and Qatar’s largest pop-culture event.
