Physical literacy involves a comprehensive approach to learning that includes movement and physical activity throughout one's life. It has positive effects on physical, psychological, social, and cognitive health and well-being. It also helps children and teenagers enhance their academic performance, and spatial awareness, and create healthy lifestyle habits.

3-2-1 "Physical learning is a crucial aspect in education and the growth of moral and intellectual understanding," said Abdulla Al Mulla, Director of the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum. Physical literacy has been shown to aid in the fight against childhood obesity and increased inactivity among children, which is a problem that most of the industrialized world is now dealing with. We explore creative ways to encourage all people to engage constructively with physical exercise, physical education, and sport as a museum and institution established on the Olympic spirit, and we look forward to the vibrant dialogue that will take place during the conference in June."

The conference will also include in-depth discussions on building a framework for the application of physical literacy in the sectors of education, sport, health, and environment in Qatar and the region, given the country's growing need and demand for a variety of sporting activities.

Distinguished physical literacy specialists from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Qatar will speak at the conference about the growing adoption of physical literacy as a guiding idea for a healthy lifestyle around the world. Attendees will also get the opportunity to speak with the foreign presenters one-on-one.

Olympism is built on the foundation of physical literacy. That is why the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM) has partnered with the International Physical Literacy Association (IPLA), the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), and UNESCO to promote and enhance physical literacy throughout Qatar and the region.

The Discovering Physical Literacy conference will mark the start of Qatar's National Physical Literacy Journey, which will include the following objectives:

  • Introduce the concept and philosophy of physical literacy, which encourages everyone to participate in physical exercise, physical education, and sport in a positive way.
  • Showcase some examples of how physical literacy has impacted the fields of physical education, sports coaching, and public health around the world.
  • Discuss the concept's application in Qatar and the rest of the region.
