Ammar Ismail Sets New Personal Best at Paris 2024 Olympics

Qatar’s sprint sensation, Ammar Ismail, achieved a new personal record in the 400-meter dash at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing fourth place in his heat with a time of 44.66 seconds on Sunday. This impressive performance qualifies him for the World Championships in Tokyo 2025.

Ismail’s stellar run means he will compete in the repechage round on Monday to vie for a spot in the semifinals. The 27-year-old athlete outpaced Jamaica’s renowned sprinter Sean Bailey, marking a significant milestone in his Olympic debut.

American Michael Norman clinched the top spot in the heat, finishing with a time of 44.10 seconds.

Before his Olympic campaign, Ismail won the gold medal in the 400-meter sprint at the Kazakhstan Bronze Athletics Tour in June, setting a then-personal best of 45.03 seconds. Earlier in 2023, he also triumphed at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Kazakhstan, taking home gold in the 400-meter sprint with a time of 46.25 seconds.

In Paris, Ismail joins a strong contingent of Qatari track and field athletes, including Abderrahman Samba, Abubaker Haydar, Bassem Humeida, and Ismail Dawood, all aiming to make their mark on the global stage.
