All You Need to Know About WhatsApp Channels

WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, revealed Thursday that it will soon introduce a new feature called WhatsApp Channels.

The social media company stated in an announcement that Channels is a one-way broadcast tool for users to connect with text, photographs, videos, stickers, and polls. To choose which channels to subscribe to, you can utilize a searchable directory. You can choose to subscribe to channels for your preferred sports teams, hobbies, or local authority news.

The first users to gain access to Channels will be those in Singapore and Colombia. According to Meta, it will increase the tool's accessibility for users in more countries over the upcoming months.

Channels, in contrast to regular WhatsApp discussions, allow you to follow accounts outside of your address book. It resembles having a Twitter feed and it will also have its own unique area, suitably named "Updates," and include a variety of spaces for interaction, such as private chats, group calls, and community feeds.

Instead of requiring a phone number to connect, Channels does away with this standard WhatsApp requirement. Instead, you may use WhatsApp Spaces to search the app for users, groups, businesses, and interests.

The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, stated that Channels were being developed as "the most private way to communicate." By not storing interactions in the app and not displaying an admin's phone number on the channel, the company is upholding the fundamental value of user privacy.

The Channels history will only be accessible for 30 days before it automatically disappears. Meta's statement said, "Channels will aspire to be the most private broadcast messaging product available and will come with the strong privacy protections people expect from WhatsApp."
