14 Qatari Athletes Aim for Glory at Paris Olympic Games

As the countdown to the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris continues, 14 Qatari athletes are preparing to represent their nation with pride and ambition.

These talented athletes will compete in five different sports, striving for stunning performances and Olympic medals on the world’s biggest stage.

Leading Qatar’s contingent are eight track and field stars, with triple world and reigning Olympic champion high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim at the forefront. Barshim, a silver medalist at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and gold medalist at Tokyo 2020, aims to defend his title in what will be his final Olympic appearance.

Qatar will have strong representation in the 400M hurdles with Abderrahman Samba, a bronze medalist at the 2019 World Championships, Bassem Hemeida, who qualified by winning gold at the 25th Asian Championships, and Ismail Dawood, who secured his spot at an international meet in South Africa.

The athletics team also features Abubakar Hayder (800M), Ammar Ismail (400M), Saif Mohammed (pole vault), and Shahad Mohamed (women’s 400M), all eager to make their mark.

In shooting, Saeed Abusharib and Rashid Saleh Al Athba will represent Qatar. Abusharib qualified by winning silver in the men’s individual trap event at the Asian Shooting Championships, while Al Athba earned his spot with a bronze at the World Skeet Championships and a gold at the Asian Championships.

Returning to the weightlifting stage is Fares Ibrahim, who won gold in the 96kg category at Tokyo 2020. He recently qualified for the 102kg event by winning silver at the World Weightlifting Championships in Saudi Arabia.

The Qatari beach volleyball team, featuring Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, will compete in their third consecutive Olympics, aiming to improve on their bronze medal from Tokyo 2020. They secured their spot through the Olympic world rankings.

Swimmer Abdulaziz Al Obaidly will compete in the 200M breaststroke, aiming to establish his presence among the world’s elite athletes.

Barshim and Shahad will proudly carry the national flag at the opening ceremony in Paris, symbolizing Qatar’s hopes and aspirations for Olympic success.
